Given the number of cruelty-free options out there, it's hard to believe that every year, hundreds of thousands of rabbits, rats, mice, guinea pigs, and other animals have chemicals smeared on their skin or in their eyes. They are poisoned and killed in archaic tests that attempt to evaluate the hazards of consumer products and their ingredients. It is now evident that tests on animals often do not predict outcomes in humans, and many non-animal test methods are available and continue to be developed.
During World Week for Animals in Laboratories, compassionate people around the world come together to devote their time and energy to stopping animal experimentation. As this week draws to a close, you can help animals by getting involved in one of PETA's lifesaving campaigns against experimenting on animals for household and beauty products.
For today's Daily Action, on behalf of animals in laboratories, let everyone know what really goes into every bottle of animal-tested dish soap, mascara, and laundry detergent by labeling the products yourself with our new stickers.

Tell members of the Internet Association: Disavow endorsement of the TPP
The unprecedented corporate power grab known as the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade deal could be headed for a possible vote in Congress later this year. But thanks to the work of thousands of CREDO activists, whether it has enough support to pass is still an open question.
Unfortunately, the TPP just got a major boost from some of the largest and most well-known internet companies. A trade association representing companies including Google, Amazon, Netflix, Facebook, Twitter, and Yahoo just announced their full support of the TPP.1,2
This is outrageous. The TPP is antithetical to the interests of internet users. Furthermore, many of these companies pride themselves on putting the rights and interests of their users first and claim that principles such as free speech and privacy are at the core of their mission. TPP directly undermines those values in favor of corporate profit.

SCIENTISTS FEAR POSSIBLE PLANET X CAN DESTROY LIFE ON EARTH
Theorized massive planet hurls "comet storms" toward Earth
Scientists fear a planet they believe orbits the outer fringes of the solar system could potentially kill all life on Earth.
Caltech researchers Konstantin Batygin and Mike Brown discoveredevidence for the planet back in January, which they believe is similar in size to Uranus and orbits the sun around 20 times farther than Neptune, and it’s also been suggested that such a planet could potentially fling “comet storms” toward Earth.
Daniel Whitmire, a researcher with the University of Arkansas, once said the “persistent evidence of a Jovian mass companion in the Oort cloud” where comets originate may explain mass extinctions on Earth.
“The dislodged comets not only smash into the Earth, they also disintegrate in the inner solar system as they get nearer to the sun, reducing the amount of sunlight that reaches the Earth,” the U of A said about Whitmire’s theory.
The only major difference between Whitmire’s theory and the theory proposed by Caltech’s researchers is the length of Planet X’s orbit: Whitmire suggested an orbit of 27 million years whereas Batygin and Brown believe the planet orbits every 10,000 to 20,000 years.
But that discrepancy doesn’t necessarily rule out the influence Planet X could have on comets – and it’s potential threat to Earth.
The idea of a distant, massive planet bringing doom to humanity was first proposed by numerous ancient civilizations, particularly the Sumerians who said that Planet X dwarfs Earth and bombards the solar system with comets every several thousand years.
More recently, in 1984, astrophysicists suggested a red dwarf orbits the sun every few million years and “periodically causes immense comet showers, plunging Earth into cold and darkness that kills up to 70% of all life.”
“The scientists believe the sun’s companion is a small, dark star known as a red dwarf with a mass probably only one-tenth of the sun’s and an elliptical orbit carrying it into the Oort cloud,” the AP reported. “Within the cloud, more than 100 billion comets are flying in remote orbits, scientists say.”
“As it passed through, the dwarf star’s gravity disrupts the orbits of about a billion comets so they shower down toward the inner solar system.”

Dr. Suzanne points out that she would never tell people not to vaccinate. She wants the people to listen to both sides, the for and against, and then make a decision themselves. She says the pro vaccine people are often aggressive and don't want you to hear the other side and often don’t even understand the down side to vaccination themselves.

KELLOGG’S AND MARS TO LABEL GMOS NATIONWIDE
Complying with Vermont's mandatory GMO labeling
First General Mills announced its plans to label GMOs, and now 2 more Big Food companies are following the company’s lead. Both Kellogg’s and Mars will now label many of their products with the words, “produced with genetic engineering” if they contain GMO ingredients, starting in mid-April.
Just as General Mills will be doing, Mars and Kellogg’s are complying withVermont’s first-in-the-nation mandatory GMO labeling requirements that take effect in July.
Kellogg North America President Paul Norman said the labels will appear nationwide, not just in Vermont:
“…because a special label for Vermont would be costly for us and our consumers.”
Mars made a similar statement:
“In 2014, the state of Vermont passed a mandatory genetically modified (GM) ingredient labeling law that requires most human food products containing GM ingredients to include on-pack labeling as of July 2016. To comply with that law, Mars is introducing clear, on-pack labeling on our products that contain GM ingredients nationwide.”
Though Mars, Kellogg’s, and General Mills have all quoted the cost of labeling as a concern, it is more likely the companies are moved by the huge public outcry against Big Food’s shady tactics regarding food labeling. Consumers Union has said GM labeling will cost individuals less than a penny a person a day.
When you consider that the Grocery Manufacturer’s Association, of which all these big corporations are a part, has paid MILLIONS to try to defeat mandatory GM labeling, stooping to fraud even, then of course the claims that cost is the deciding factor to go ahead and finally label is likely pure bunk.
“It would amount to less than the cost of a gallon of milk. We are pleased that a fair, independent study was published to finally show that GE food labeling essentially adds no cost to consumers.”
Of course companies like Kellogg’s have been accused of fraud before, as in the case of labeling their foods ‘natural’ when they were riddled with GMOs. What is more likely driving this sea-change in Big Food compliance with mandatory labeling is the realization that they have completely alienated their consumer base.

A family in Sugar Creek, Missouri grew the beautiful vegetable garden in the photo above.
They’ve been given four days to tear out the entire garden or face a fine.
Why? Because it is in their front yard, and city officials and a few neighbors don’t like it.
Nathan Athans said he planted the garden in his front yard because it gets optimal sunlight. His backyard only gets sunshine for about two hours per day, and only in certain areas.
Athans told KSHB that he grows several different types of vegetables on his lawn and loves tending to his garden.
I’d probably say about 300 hours [so far this year], I spend all my free time out here.I want my family to know where their food is coming from, I don’t want to have to go to the grocery store and worry about what was done to that food.
Last summer, the city cited Athans for weeds in his garden, and he complied with the order to clean things up, and paid the fine.
But now, the city has passed a shiny new ordinance – one that Athans believes is part of a witch hunt against him.
The family started an online petition, which explains why they feel targeted:
The city of Sugar Creek, Missouri passed an ordinance two days ago on March 28th, forbidding front yard gardens to grow food, within the first 30 feet of front yard space from the street. Mayor Matt Mallinson both passed and approved this ordinance. They gave us until April 1st to comply. We are the only house in the city with a front yard garden, and just happen to be exactly within those first 30 feet. They have been targeting us since we moved in last year, because we grew a garden in the front yard.
The city’s building official, Paul Loving, told KSHB that city received many complaints and that the ordinance is their solution.
The petition goes on to explain the reasons the garden is so important to Athans and his family:
We believe in sustainability, growing our food locally without pesticides and excessive fertilizer use, reducing our need for fossil fuels to import produce from other countries, countries that have little or no regulations on pesticide use. Sugar Creek is also prone to flooding, as it is located next to the Missouri River, so using our yard for growing plants instead of grass is beneficial because our garden takes in water as well as holding the soil together to prevent erosion, all while filtering out pollutants. It has helped our basement not flood during storms, prevented storm water runoff pollution, reduced fossil fuel use, helped us eat healthier, and prevented us from consuming pesticides and GMOs.
Unfortunately, Athans isn’t the first to be subjected to harassment over growing his own food. People have been charged with crimes, threatened with jail time, and had their property destroyed for growing gardens in their own yards.
Remember, in the US, you never truly own anything.
